Is Pediatric Anesthesiology Right for You?
Being a pediatric anesthesiology assistant is similar to being any other anesthesiologist assistant however you specialize in a specific field within anesthesiology. The training and educational requirements are similar since either way you must be certified to become an anesthesiologist assistant. Nevertheless, a pediatric anesthesiologist is trained to work with kids, children and other infants. This generally requires an entire extra year of training. Some people even require more than one year of training in order to be specialized enough to work with certain infant issues.
Adults are not the only people who need surgery. Many kids needs surgery and require anesthesia for their operations or surgeries. Therefore, pediatric anesthesiologist and assistants are needed to administer the anesthesia and this children patient care. Pediatric care has to do with all children that are under the age of 18.
I love my job, but the thing I love the most is working with kids. I get to interact with them pre surgery and event post surgery.
There are many differences between anesthesia when it comes to administering it to a child or to an adult. The differences not only have to do with the size and development of the body and the dosage needed but there are also psychological and emotional differences. Some of the equipment and drugs may differ therefore the assistant must have the technical and educational knowledge required for this.

Anesthesiology is a difficult and dangerous field. A slight mistake can have severe consequences. As a result, having someone specialized not only with anesthesia but also dealing with children and their issues is necessary for the proper execution of the pediatric surgery.
Most of the specific pediatric anesthesiology education and knowledge is learned through a year of training and the entire residency program. During the residency program, you will work hand in hand with a professional pediatric anesthesiologist and you will gain the knowledge required to work with children and infants, from pre surgery care, during surgery care to post surgery child care. Pre-surgery care is very important since kids will be really scared before surgery and you must calm them down prior to surgery.
